Title
Appalachian House, opening, photo 3
Description
This image shows attendees of the opening of the Appalachian House by Appalachian State University (1967-current) in Washington, D.C., in 1977. People can be seen standing in a hallway. The Appalachian House opened in 1977 and served as a hostel for 18-20 visiting faculty, staff, and students. It was replaced by a property six blocks away on North Carolina Avenue in 2003 but closed in April 2008, when zoning restrictions would no longer allow the house to be used as a hostel. Standing on the far right with his finger in the air is Mr. Rogers Whitener, Department of English.
