Title
Appalachian House, opening, photo 2
Description
This image shows attendees of the opening of the Appalachian House by Appalachian State University (1967-current) in Washington, D.C., in 1977. People can be seen standing in a hallway. The Appalachian House opened in 1977 and served as a hostel for 18-20 visiting faculty, staff, and students. It was replaced by a property six blocks away on North Carolina Avenue in 2003 but closed in April 2008, when zoning restrictions would no longer allow the house to be used as a hostel. On the far right in the foreground is Dr. Roger Stilling, Professor in the Department of English. Standing in the center of the photograph and scratching his neck is Mr. Rogers Whitener, Professor in the Department of English.
