Title
Appalachian House, 1977, interior
Description
This image shows the interior of one of the rooms in the Appalachian House by Appalachian State University (1967-current) in Washington, D.C., in 1977. People can be seen standing in a hallway. The Appalachian House opened in 1977 and served as a hostel for 18-20 visiting faculty, staff, and students. It was replaced by a property six blocks away on North Carolina Avenue in 2003 but closed in April 2008, when zoning restrictions would no longer allow the house to be used as a hostel. This image appears in the 1978 Rhododendron (p. 108).
