Appalachian House, 1977, photo 3

Description

This image shows exterior of the Appalachian House leased by the Folger Shakespeare Library (1967-current) in Washington, D.C., in 1977. The Appalachian House opened in 1977 and served as a hostel for 18-20 visiting faculty, staff, and students. It was replaced by a property six blocks away on North Carolina Avenue in 2003 but closed in April 2008, when zoning restrictions would no longer allow the house to be used as a hostel.
