This image shows an Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) student working at WATA-AM, a radio station in Boone, NC, in the 1950s. WATA was a 240 watt radio station owned and operated by the Wilkes Broadcasting Company. It began operating on September 24, 1950, and broadcast national and local news, sporting events, religious programs, Appalachian High School events, Appalachian State Teachers College events, and programs performed by students and faculty at Appalachian State.
