This image shows two Appalachian State University (1967-current) employees sitting by a bonfire at an outdoor meeting of the SEANC in June 1968. The State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) started in 1940 to provide representation for state employees in the North Carolina General Assembly, and held its first convention in 1947. The organization promoted increased salaries, retirement plans, health plans, and the addition of the Friday after Thanksgiving as an employee holiday. The man in the center of the photograph is Mr. John Welborn, Director of Food Services.
