This image shows Chancellor John Thomas (1979-1993) giving a speech at a faculty retirement luncheon held at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1980. The luncheon was held in honor of retiring faculty in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925. In the foreground, Robert Snead, vice-chancellor of Public Affairs, can be seen. On the left of Chancellor Thomas is Dr. Harvey Durham, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Chancellor Emeritus William H. Plemmons and Dr. Plemmons wife, Bebe.
