Description

This image shows two students using the Rivers Street Tunnel during a snowstorm at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Newland Hall, built 1939, can be seen in the background. The Rivers Street Tunnel was designed to limit traffic over Rivers Street and was located between Newland Hall and Rankin Science Hall, built 1963.
