Title

Kraut Creek Flood, 1973, photo 1

Description

This image shows some of the damage to the parking lot south of the Service Annex, built 1949, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1973. Two people can be seen observing wet and mud-covered pavement. On May 28, 1973, the Kraut Creek on the southern end of campus flooded after 1.6 inches of rainfall and caused thousands of dollars of property damage, primarily cars parked in lots north of Rivers Street. The Steam Generator Plant, built 1924, and Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, can be seen in the background.
