Description

This image shows students sitting in the language lab in the Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in June 1977. Students are seen wearing headsets. Programs in the Department of Foreign Languages focus on teaching students both the language and culture of a region, and includes courses in French, Spanish, Chinese, German, Arabic, Japanese, Latin, and Russian, as well as offering classes for international business and economics majors in the College of Business. The Language Lab had 54 booths with electronic attachments, where students listened to prerecorded tapes designed to enhance the student's ability to comprehend, pronounce, and speak the language.
