May Day Festival, 1973, photo 2

This image shows students watching as a man attempts to climb a rope ladder tied to a tree during the May Day Festival at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1973. The May Day festival took place on Sanford Mall and included the crowning of the May queen, decorating a maypole, races and games. This image appears in the 1974 Rhododendron (p. 27).
