Description

Cars can be seen parked on College Avenue in the foreground. The building first served as home for Appalachian Elementary School, otherwise known as the Demonstration Elementary School, where Watauga County elementary school students would be taught by Appalachian State teachers and students. The school existed from the mid-1920s until 1975. First built as Boone Grade School, the Education Building was the first building for Appalachian Elementary School until 1954, when Whitener Hall was completed.
