Campus Scenes, circa 1965, photo 3

Description

This image shows students standing outside the Education Building, built 1925, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1960s. Cars can be seen parked on College Avenue in the foreground. The building first served as home for Appalachian Elementary School, otherwise known as the Demonstration Elementary School, where Watauga County elementary school students would be taught by Appalachian State teachers and students. The school existed from the mid-1920s until 1975. First built as Boone Grade School, the Education Building was the first building for Appalachian Elementary School until 1954, when Whitener Hall was completed. The Education Building was demolished in the late 1960s
