Title
Campus Scenes, circa 1975, windows, photo 4
Description
This image shows letters spelling "SHAM" taped inside the window of one of the campus dormitories at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Liquor bottles can be seen displayed in the windowsill. The dormitory is either East Hall or Justice Hall, both built in 1952. In the 1970s, students were allowed to possess and consume alcoholic beverages primarily in their dormitory rooms, but were prohibited from possessing open containers in residence hall lobbies, other university buildings, athletic events, and the campus at large. Students between the ages of 18-21 were allowed beer and wine containing less than 14% alcohol.
