This image shows a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Appalachian State University (1967-current) in a conference room on August 10, 1973. Three Board members can be seen sitting at a conference table. The Board of Trustees has been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian State under the University of North Carolina system's Board of Governors. Seated at the table on the far left is Mr. Perry Greene. Seated along the back wall from left to right are Dr. Paul Sanders, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Braxton Harris, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs; and Mr. Bob Allen, Director of Public Affairs.
