This image shows a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Appalachian State University (1967-current) in a conference room on August 10, 1973. Board members can be seen sitting around a conference table. The Board of Trustees has been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian State under the University of North Carolina system's Board of Governors. Seated from right to left along the wall and by the lamp are Mr. Jim Roberts, Faculty Senate Representative, and Mr. Ned Trivette, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs. Seated at the table and second from the far right is Mr. John Garwood. Seated at the table and fifth from the far right is Mr. Armfield Coffey.
