This image shows a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Board members can be seen sitting around conference tables, and Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) is seen standing in the background, second from the left. The Board of Trustees has been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian State under the University of North Carolina system's Board of Governors. Standing to the right of Chancellor Wey is Mr. Perry Greene. Standing to the left of Chancellor Wey are Mr. F.P. Bodenheimer, Mr. Ralph winkler and Unknown.
