Description

This image shows a meeting of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina System at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Board members can be seen standing in a group. Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) can be seen standing on the left. The Board of Governors is the main governing body of the sixteen University of North Carolina institutions, and elects each of the institutions' chancellors, vice chancellors, senior academic and administrative officers, and faculty with permanent tenure. Unknown (with back to camera), Chancellor Wey, Ms. Earlene Pritchett (Administrative Assistant to the Chancellor), Mr. William C. Friday (President of the University of North Carolina), Mr. Bob Allen (Public Affairs).
