This image shows Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) standing with North Carolina Governor James E. Holshouser, Jr. (1973-1977) at a luncheon held for the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina System at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. The Board of Governors is the main governing body of the sixteen University of North Carolina institutions, and elects each of the institutions' chancellors, vice chancellors, senior academic and administrative officers, and faculty with permanent tenure.
