This image shows a group of alumni posing for the camera at a luncheon held by the Alumni Association at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in September 1973. Standing in the center are William Rankins, class of 1946, and Sarah Rebekah Rivers, class of 1947, who received Distinguished Alumni Awards that year. Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) can be seen standing on the left. The Alumni Association started in 1934 and met at least once a year during Homecoming for reunions, association business, and officer elections. From left to right are Chancellor Herbert Wey, Gerald Adams, William Rankins, Ms. Rivers, Bill Edwards, John Matthews and Jack Neal. Bill Edwards received the award. He is seen holding the plaque in his hand as can be seen Ms. Rivers also holding her plaque in her hands.
