Description

This image shows Cratis Williams, dean of the Graduate School and professor in the Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1980s. He is seen standing in front of his picture, holding a plaque with a man in an office. Williams began teaching at Appalachian State in 1942, and served as dean of the Graduate School from 1956 until 1975. He was acting chancellor for Academic Affairs in 1974, and served as assistant chancellor from 1976 to 1979, and interim chancellor following Herbert Walter Wey's retirement in 1979. He died in 1985. Also seen in the picture is Dr. Ron Tuttle, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School and Professor in the Department Of Counselor Education and Research.
