Description
This image shows a man giving a lecture to a class of students training to be interns at the Western Carolina Center in the Department of Special Education in the College of Learning and Human Development at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1972. The Department of Special Education is now the Department of Language, Reading and Exceptionalities in the College of Education, and it includes undergraduate work in communication disorders and special education, and graduate work in communication disorders, reading education, and special education. Western Carolina Center is located in Morganton, NC, and has been an intermediate care facility for the mentally handicapped in western North Carolina since 1963. The Center also provides research and training opportunities for college and university faculty and students.
