Description
This image shows a class being taught in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1978. A professor can be seen standing behind an overhead projector, speaking to students sitting at desks on the left. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains the Rankin Science Observatory in Rankin Science Hall, built 1963, and the Dark Sky Observatory, opened 1981, twenty miles northeast of Boone, NC. The Department offers an undergraduate degrees in applied physics and graduate degrees in engineering physics, as well as courses in industrial, chemical, computational, environmental, medical, and radiation safety physics. Seated along the wall are, from right to left, Dr. Tom Rokoske, Professor of Physics, and Dr. Walter Connolly, Professor of Physics.
