Description
This image shows Professor Gordon Lindsay picking up a pipe from a rack in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains the Rankin Science Observatory in Rankin Science Hall, built 1963, and the Dark Sky Observatory, opened 1981, twenty miles northeast of Boone, NC. The Department offers an undergraduate degrees in applied physics and graduate degrees in engineering physics, as well as courses in industrial, chemical, computational, environmental, medical, and radiation safety physics.

The first line of the description refers to the wrong person:
This image shows Andrew J. Graham working in the Physics Machine Shop. Later Mr Graham received his undergraduate Physics degree and masters in Mathematics from Appalachian. He recived his doctorate in Theoretical Physics from Wake Fprest University.
