Description

This image shows Lieutenant Colonel John Collins in the Department of Military Science at Appalachian State University (1967-current) standing with Captain Richard Parrott holding an Army Commendation Medal in November 1969. The Department began in the fall of 1969 and houses the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). It is located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts and offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard.
