This image shows three children standing by the desk of a professor as she grades papers in the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1970s. The Department of Mathematic Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree program with concentrations in applied mathematics, general mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. The graduate program leads to Master of Science degrees in mathematics or mathematics education with teacher certification.
