Description

This image shows John and Vivian Welborn standing with a student recipient of the Welborn Scholarship in the Department of Home Economics in the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in April 1979. Vivan Welborn taught in the Home Economics Department since 1940 and served as the dietician for Appalachian State. John Welborn was the cafeteria manager from the 1940s through the 1960s. The Department of Home Economics is now the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and provides graduate and undergraduate programs in child development, nutrition, apparel and textiles, and family and consumer sciences.
