This image shows a student testing potatoes cooking in an Amana Radarange, an early microwave oven, for a meal management course in the Department of Home Economics in the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. The Department of Home Economics, located in L. S. Dougherty Hall, built 1962, is now the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and provides graduate and undergraduate programs in child development, nutrition, apparel and textiles, and family and consumer sciences.
