This image shows Nicholas Erneston, dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, presenting a certificate to Madge Rhyne, professor in the Department of Home Economics at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the early 1980s. Madge Rhyne taught home economics at Appalachian State since 1947 until her retirement. Two other women are seen standing in the image. The Department of Home Economics is now the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and provides graduate and undergraduate programs in child development, nutrition, apparel and textiles, and family and consumer sciences. The woman standing beside Dr. Erneston is Dr. Sammie Garner, Chairperson of the Department of Home Economics. Next to her is Dr. Charlotte McCall, Professor of Home Economics. Professor Rhyne is on the far right.
