Title

Appalachian Collection, Brown donation, photo 3

Description

This image shows the descendants of Appalachian State founders B. B. Dougherty and D. D. Dougherty in the D. D. Dougherty Library, built 1935, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1960s. O. L. Brown, sitting on the right, was donating a copy of his biography of Appalachian State founder and President Emeritus B. B. Dougherty to the Appalachian Collection. Oscar Lester Brown wrote "Blanford Barnard Dougherty, a man to match his mountains" in 1963. He was a graduate of Appalachian Training School (1903-1925) and son-in-law of B. B. Dougherty. Also seen are Grace Dougherty, Annie Dougherty Rufty, Lilly Penz, and R. E. Scoggins. The W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection is a repository for materials related to the Southern uplands, with strengths in the social sciences, regional history, folklore, music, religion, genealogy, fiction, and African and Native Appalachia.
