Title

Geology, bulletin board

Description

This image shows the bulletin board of the Department of Geology in Rankin Science Hall, built 1963, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1986-87. The board shows advertisements for different programs at different colleges and universities, as well as notices for geology students. Below the bulletin board is a display of petrified wood. The Department of Geology began in 1949. It emphasizes the scientific principles of geology, and preparing students to be professional geologists and teachers. It is the only Bachelor of Science program that results in an Earth Science Teaching certification in North Carolina. This image appears in the 1987 Rhododendron (p. 124).
