This image shows three people concerned with the "Partnership of the Americas" and the Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Programs in the Department of Foreign Languages focus on teaching students both the language and culture of a region, and includes courses in French, Spanish, Chinese, German, Arabic, Japanese, Latin, and Russian, as well as offering classes for international business and economics majors in the College of Business.The woman in the center is Dr. Peggy Hartley, Professor of Foreign Languages.
