This image shows Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs John E. Thomas standing with Professor J. R. Prince with two others at an event held by the Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1979. John Thomas became chancellor of Appalachian State in 1979. Programs in the Department of Foreign Languages focus on teaching students both the language and culture of a region, and includes courses in French, Spanish, Chinese, German, Arabic, Japanese, Latin, and Russian, as well as offering classes for international business and economics majors in the College of Business.
