Camp Yonahlossee


The digitized scrapbooks, photographs, guest books, and other items in this digital collection are from AC.867 Camp Yonahlossee collection. Founded in 1922 by Mrs. A. P. Kephart as a summer camp for girls, Camp Yonahlossee was the female counterpart to Camp Yonahnoka located nearby in Linville, North Carolina. In 1954 the camp was sold to Mr. and Mrs. George M. McCord and Mrs. Agnes Jeter. The camp's primary focus was outdoor recreation with programs including horseback riding, archery, rifle shooting, swimming, sailing, and fencing. Crafts and dance were also taught at the camp. The camp closed in the 1980s and became a resort focused on equestrian activities. This 40-page photo album contains numerous photos of Camp Yonahlossee activities, such as tennis, swimming, and horsemanship, from the years 1936 and 1937.

This large collage contains photographs of various camp buildings and activities as well as group portraits. Several dates are written on the photographs including 1927, 1929, 1936, and 1940.

This large collage primarily contains group portraits as well as a few photographs of Agnes Jeter. Other photographs feature animals such as sheep or dogs. One photograph is marked "1934," and another is marked "1935."
Photo Collage: Outdoor Recreation and Wagons

This large collage contains photographs of outdoor exercise and recreation activities as well as group portraits and photographs of wagons and farm animals. There is also a group portrait of children with the names "Dorothy," "Ruth," "Wayne," and "Margaret" and the date "1920" written on the photograph. Another photo is marked "1934."

This large collage contains photographs of various indoor and outdoor activities at the camp as well as group portraits and photographs of camp founders, Dr. Adam Perry and Margaret Kephart. One photograph is marked "1940."
