Fred Hennessee was born in Morganton, N.C. on March 9, 1926. After beginning his law enforcement career as a Morganton city police officer, he later joined the Burke County sheriff’s department, and was soon promoted to deputy sheriff. In 1968 he became an officer for the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board, where he worked for the next 20 years. The Moonshining in Burke County: The Career of N.C. ABC officer Fred Hennessee scrapbook collection was created by Fred Hennessee during his law enforcement career and passed on to his daughters after his death on March 27, 1997. The digital collection was created to provide better public access to this historically valuable collection.

An account of the resource
Fred Hennessee was born in Morganton, N.C. on March 9, 1926. After beginning his law enforcement career as a Morganton city police officer, he later joined the Burke County sheriff’s department, and was soon promoted to deputy sheriff. In 1968 he became an officer for the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board, where he worked for the next 20 years. The Moonshining in Burke County: The Career of N.C. ABC officer Fred Hennessee scrapbook collection was created by Fred Hennessee during his law enforcement career and passed on to his daughters after his death on March 27, 1997. The digital collection was created to provide better public access to this historically valuable collection.
