Clogston became Athletic Director in 1969 and retired in 1974. James Jones became director in 1974.

Contributions helped fund the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, built 1972, and the Satie Hunt Broyhill Music Center, dedicated in 1983. She died in 1998 at age 96.

Camp Broadstone was purchased by the State of North Carolina, Watauga County, and the newly formed Appalachian School Camp, Inc., in 1961 for ten dollars. Appalachian School Camp, Inc., was formed to manage the property as an education tool for elementary and high school students, as well as to provide teaching experience in an outdoor setting. Camp Broadstone is a multi-use facility run by the the Office of Conferences and Institutes at Appalachian State University. (1967-current).
