Scenes of Boone, 1936

Photographer H. Lee Waters traveled across North Carolina and sections of Virginia from 1936 to 1942 making films of small town life. The films were shown in the local theaters and eventually became a part of the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Duke University. The film of Boone, NC in 1936 features the downtown area and many local residents. Historic Watauga County buildings and images of the Appalachian State University campus are recorded on the film as well.
